What does Neurodiverse Mean?
Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in how human brains work — including differences in
social interaction, communication, learning, attention, and sensory processing.
At Called to Belong, when we refer to neurodiverse adults, we mean adults whose neurological
makeup differs from what is considered typical, including but not limited to:
• Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
• ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
• Dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia (learning differences)
• Down syndrome
• Intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD)
• Tourette syndrome
• Sensory processing differences
• Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), in some neurodiversity frameworks
• Other neurodevelopmental and cognitive differences
Like everyone,
they benefit from social connection and belonging
alongside their local community.
